Drywall is a panel made of gypsum.Gypsum is looked like white sand as it found in massive beds in the form of the mineral, but it appears pink, yellow or grey due to the presence of impurities found in beds. Gypsum also contains a large amount of water but in a crystalline form. This crystalline water keeps the gypsum cool and it also protects the structure behind it. Additives like starch, paper pulp and an emulsifier are used for creating the specialized form of drywall. It is typically thick sheets of paper. It is used as a construction material to make interior walls, ceilings, arches and architecture specialities. In Steel Frame Construction drywall is used to wrap columns to conceal steel beams.
The conventional way of furnishing building is cement plaster which needs bricks, sand, concrete, cement water, the mixture of all this is used to make the wall. This wet plaster take a long time to harden to make the wall and we cannot do any other work until plaster gets dry, so plaster cause delay in construction work.Repair process of this wall is also time consuming. Plaster application is also labour intensive as it required skilled craftsmen who work on a small area of wall for weeks on end.
Drywall takes a couple of days for installation of wall and damaged drywall can be patched in a rapid and easier fashion than plaster. Drywall construction is used to avoid delays because walls do not have to dry. Drywall installations do not require any skilled craftsmen so it is not labour intensive. Drywall has a greater degree of fire- resistance.
